This unique porcelain jewelry was developed while I was living in Guatemala. I decided to make some jewelry for my gallery, and it just took off from there! Soon, necklaces, bracelets and earrings became my best sellers!
In the beginning, I was using all native Guatemalan materials for the beads, such as ground obsidian, jade powder, mica and native basalt, as well as hand dug clay......
Now back in the U.S., I continue to explore contemporary colored porcelain and still use a great deal of native materials. The beads are high fired, then tumbled in a rock tumbler for a beautiful shine.
My pieces, I hope, reflect both a mastery of materials and design. The porcelain contains volcanic river basalt, which I hand dug in Guatemala, and as far as I know, I am the only artist to use it. It gives a depth and an unique and unusual stonelike quality to the polished pieces.
